A: You can create fascinating stories without entering any info, but to make it truly unique and yours, fill in as many of the fields as relevant. There is plenty more to be said on this, so if you are curious also check out this guide.

A:

• Private means only you can see the story.
• Unlisted means users can access your story if they have the link for it however the story wouldn’t be displayed in the app lists or search results.
• Public means the story and the display name of the user who created it are discoverable by others.

A: Do you want the story to have a theme around honesty? Then picking honesty in the Values would steer the story accordingly. You could use this for values that are important to you or if you want to teach it to your kid.

If you are simply reading for fun though you may choose to leave this blank so that the story does not focus on that.

If you are looking to define morals for a specific character, then you should mention that in the character background field instead of here.

A: If you want a quick read for the bedtime you might want to create a short story or if you want to enjoy a good long fantasy fiction you might want to read a novel etc. We provide this flexibility with number of chapters and chapter length with an approximate number of words per chapter. The current lengths are what we found as the best to write high quality stories and we constantly experiment to make things better.

Once you start a story a primary plot is written according to the story length you picked and so for most consistent writing results, stick to the story length you picked but if needed, you can update it for an ongoing story through Library > Edit > Refine Blueprint.

A: Okudu uses the best AI writing large language models with a secret sauce. As this is a technology that keeps progressing, we keep improving the quality. Okudu normally auto-selects a model for each story based on user inputs, if you like to pick the AI writer model you can do so in Additional Options if you have Creator subscription.

Comparing AI writers is tricky: there are many variables in play, and personal preferences differ a lot. So disclaimer: this is by no means perfect and you may find that the results differ when you try yourself. That said, we tried to compare the writing of models as objective and fair as possible. Here is the methodology we used:

1. Decide on the story inputs that will be used across the models.
2. Generate the first 3 chapters for 4 different genres.
3. Measure quantitative aspects mathematically across those stories.
4. Evaluate the writing of each story qualitatively by using 3 separate AI writers to prevent bias to their own writing style.

Quantitative scores

Verbosity: generated words compared to the target of 1000 words.

Dialogue: share of spoken dialogue in chapter words.

Flesch: Flesch Reading Ease, a readability score based on sentence length and word complexity. Higher scores usually mean the text is easier and smoother to read; lower scores usually mean denser or more complex prose. It does not measure story quality, only reading difficulty.

Vocabulary: vocabulary variety measured with MATTR. Higher means more varied wording.

Qualitative scores

Prose: line-level writing quality: flow, word choice, description, voice, and memorable phrasing.

Immersion: how strongly the chapter makes the reader feel present in the scene and emotional beats.

Pacing: how well the chapter moves, builds tension, and avoids dragging or rushing.

Technical: grammar, coherence, tense consistency, point of view consistency, and general polish.

Prompt: how closely the chapter follows the requested story setup and selected continuation.

A: 2 tips:

1. Get a subscription you are comfortable with since they offer the lowest per credit prices besides the additional benefits like no ads, story editing capability etc.
2. Make your purchases on our web app with a 10% discount. Web prices are discounted because Stripe (our trusted online payment provider) charges ~4% fee compared to app stores’ 15-30% fees for each purchase.

A: You can earn 1 credit for posting a thoughtful comment on someone else’s story. The credit is granted when all of the following are true:

• The comment is on someone else’s story (not your own).
• The comment is approved by content moderation.
• The comment is thoughtful and substantive.
• This is a one-time bonus — once you’ve earned it on any story, you can’t earn it again.

A: At the end of a story you will see a “How about a sequel?” section instead of the usual “What’s next” section. Once you select an option there, it will create a sequel as a new story. As we create the sequel,

1. We may update the setting and the character info to adapt to the changes that may have happened e.g. year 2027 instead of 2026, age 20 instead of 19 etc.
2. We create a History for the sequel i.e. a summary of the prior books so that the sequel can continue accordingly.

If you feel the sequel is mixing up or missing out on some details, you may want to check its setup with Library > Edit > Refine Blueprint.

A: A series is a linear chain, so each story has at most one sequel. Tapping create sequel again just opens the existing one. If it failed or got stuck, delete it from Library and try again. To take the story in a different direction without replacing the sequel, use “Start alternate story” from the three‑dot menu.

In Auto-continue mode, the next chapter starts generating the moment you open the current one, so you can keep reading without tapping a continuation. The post-chapter options, like, share, and comment remain visible just like in Interactive mode, so you can still reimagine the story or steer it in a different direction at any point. Each chapter still uses 1 credit, same as Interactive mode.

You choose the story mode under Additional Options when creating a story. You can change it at any time afterwards from Edit Blueprint on that story.

A: Tapping the Report action on a comment kicks off three things in parallel:

1. The comment is hidden from your view shortly after you submit, and you won’t see it again on this account, even if other readers can still see it.
2. Our automated moderator re-evaluates the comment against our content rules. If the comment clearly violates the rules, it is auto-removed for everyone within seconds.
3. If the verdict is unclear, a notification is sent to our human moderation team for review.

If you tap Report a second time on the same comment, we show a quick confirmation that you already reported it; the report isn’t filed again. You can report comments for harassment, spam, off-topic, or other reasons.

A: “Story updates” is a single toggle that covers notifications about your own stories. When it is on you may receive a push notification when someone comments on your story or when your story’s visibility changes (for example, if our automated content rating determines a story is 18+ and changes its visibility to Private). The same toggle will gate other story-level events as we add them. Turning it off silences these pushes. In-app notices stay visible whether the toggle is on or off so you can still see what happened when you next open the app.

A: This error means the app could not complete a security check on your device. Here are a few things to try:

1. Restart the app: close it completely and reopen it. This resolves most temporary issues.
2. Disable your VPN: VPNs can interfere with the security check. Try turning it off temporarily and retry.
3. Check your internet connection: the security check requires a network request, so a weak or unstable connection can cause it to fail.
4. Update Google Play Services: on Android, go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Services and check for updates. An outdated version can prevent the check from succeeding.
5. Rooted or modified devices: if your Android device is rooted or running a custom ROM, the security check may not pass. In this case, please use the web app instead.
6. Outdated app: if your app is outdated it may fail the checks, check Google Play to see whether there is a new app version.
7. Use the web app: if the issue persists on your mobile app, you can use the web app at https://app.okudu.ai from any browser.

A: The wand appears on long-form free-text fields (story setup, character background, continuation prompts and similar) when the field is focused and the text is long enough to benefit from a review. Tapping it asks our AI to suggest rewrites for grammar, clarity, and specificity.

The wand is a Premium feature. Non-subscribers get one free review across the app so you can try it; after that, the wand opens the Premium page on tap. Premium subscribers get one completed review per field per editing session, across as many fields as they need. Failed network attempts may be retried at no additional cost. If you leave the screen and come back, the field gives you a fresh attempt.

Suggestions are optional. You can review the rewrites and choose whether to apply them. On long-form fields you can Accept or Reject each suggestion individually. On continuation prompts the suggestion appears as a single rewritten draft you can accept or skip.

After you accept a suggestion, the affected text stays highlighted in green for the rest of this editing session. Tap any green span to revert your acceptance and restore the prior text. Leaving this screen clears the highlights, so revert is only available while you stay on this page.

A: When the suggestions in the option picker don’t fit, this button generates a fresh set. It is a Premium feature; non-subscribers can use it once to try, after which the button opens the Premium page on tap.

A: Once you have more than 10 stories in a tab, a search bar and filter row appear. The search and every active filter combine with AND, so a story has to match all of them to show. Within a filter that supports multi-select (Genre), selected values combine with OR. Picking Fantasy and Horror returns stories tagged with either.

• Created tab: Genre (multi-select), Writing status (Draft, Ongoing, Complete), Series. Series only appears if you have created at least one series.
• Starred tab: Genre (multi-select), Reading status (Unread, Ongoing, Finished).

A: Writing status reflects how far the story's text has been written:

• Draft means only the scenario exists; no chapter text has been written yet.
• Ongoing means at least one chapter has been written but not all planned chapters are complete.
• Complete means every planned chapter has been written.

A: Reading status is based on your bookmarked position on the current device:

• Unread means you have not opened the story on this device.
• Ongoing means you have opened the story but have not yet reached the last available chapter.
• Finished means your bookmark is on the last available chapter on this device.

Reading status is currently per-device. If you read a story on your phone and open the Library on the web, the web view will treat the story as Unread until you open it there too. Cross-device sync of reading position is on our list to add.
